Court Reporters |
|
| |
It is the policy of the superior court that an official court reporter will normally be available in all departments with the exception of small claims, traffic, trials de novo, and judgment debtor examinations (California Rules of Court, rule 2.956.)
It is the responsibility of every party to a civil action to pay for court reporter services in advance of the hearing of the matter to be reported. Fees to report all civil matters are $216.00 for each half-day of service, and $433.00 for each full day of service. A half-day fee shall be charged for any matter which lasts more than one hour. A full-day fee shall be charged for any matter which lasts more than four hours (California Rules of Court rule 2.958 ). Fees shall be paid in advance at the clerk’s legal filings public counter in each court location where the case is being heard. The clerk’s legal fillings is in Room 201 of the Visalia Courthouse. (Government Code section 68086).
If an official court reporter is not available, a party may arrange for the attendance of a certified shorthand reporter to serve pro tempore, in which event the party contracts directly with that reporter and makes payment directly to him/her, and will not pay the fees outlined above.
